Rigging / Stowing the OC-2

OC-2 Rigging

The ama is stowed with the canoe using stubby iako. Remove these by unscrewing the knobs and place the stubby iako into the deck box. These knobs can easily get away from you and end up in the water. Always rig on the wooden dock not the floating dock to avoid this.

Place the iako over the screws like this, label side up. There should be one rubber washer on each screw under the iako. Be careful not to cross thread the knobs when tightening. They should go on very easily. If one starts going on tight re-try until it goes on easy. Tighten down snug but donʻt over tighten!

Secure the knobs on the ama the same way.

Secure the leash on the front iako.

Check the radio is charged and secure the drybag.

It is a requirement that club OC1/OC2 paddlers wear the PFD.

Check that the rudder is straight as handing the canoe can twist it so far that the pedals may not be able to move it without damaging the cables. This is a good time to double check everything!

Place into the water carefully.

Adjust the seats by pulling them off the velcro and re-placing. This is next to impossible when seated, so you may want to measure the distance that is good for you and write it down.

OC-2 De-rigging

Carefully remove the canoe from the water and hang the rudder off the edge of the dock like before.

Rinse the canoe, ama and iako with fresh water. Wipe down with the towel. Look for any new damage.

Remove the knobs and replace the iako with the stubby ones (keep the ama on the left), replace the knobs.

Stow the iako, dry bag, leash and PFDs in the deck box.

OC-2 Stowing

If you notice any water inside the canoe or ama drain it out by loosening the drain plugs.

Stow the canoe upside down on the inner cradle with the bow towards the harbor entrance.

The front knobs need to be in front of the front cradle (away from the bridge) like this
