Rigging

  1. Check that the rudder cables are in good condition and that the pedals and rudder operate freely.
  2. Check for any damage; cracks, dings, scrapes. Report any damage to the equipment manager. Failure to report damage you see prior to your outing may make you responsible for the damage just like a rental car.
  3. Check that all drain plugs are secured.
  4. OC-2 : stow the stubby iako in the deck box.
  5. Secure the leash on the front iako.
  6. Check the radio is charged and secure the drybag and PFD.
  7. Check that the rudder is straight as handing the canoe can twist it so far that the pedals may not be able to move it without damaging the cables.
  8. Double check everything!
  9. Place into the water carefully.
  10. Adjust the seat.
  11. If going out alone make sure you have told someone your “float plan” and when to expect your return.
