The Mermaid Award
The Mermaid Award is given by the women’s race team to that paddler who displays the most mermaid like qualities.
Mermaids (also know as Pania in Maori mythology) are a beautiful combination of human and fish, having the best qualities of both. Mermaids are known for their giving nature always assisting others when in need. Mermaids were thought to be mythical creatures, but they can be seen dancing together under a full moon.
